oooh, it is time for me to get out my favorite recs for trans & nb artists Sarah and the Safe Word - Cabaret Rock Synthion - Electronica
Tami T - Electronic Pop
Ada Rook - Industrial
She/her/hers - Ballad
Penny Parker - Singer/songwriter
Lauren Auder - atmospheric pop
Beverly Glenn-Copeland- kind of operatic, hard to categorize
Utada Hikaru - J-pop
Powderpaint - 80s electronica
I could go on but these are my favs that haven’t been mentioned yet so far. links only for the first two bc I just joined, sorry for not being able to link all of these
I was drawn to the album because he worked with fennesz (amazing ambient glitch artis) and Derek Bailey (legendary free improv guitarist), the tracks that are more fennesz lead are probably the more enjoyable for most. Derek’s guitar playing is pretty polarizing.
My two favorite tracks are probably
been listening to the best band ever recently Stereolab
I think everyone should check them out imo
I also have a bunch of albums I think everyone should listen to once (maybe a few times to actually get into them) but will post about it another time.
Mili is so special to me and this is by far my favorite song of theirs.
If you have never heard of them, they also make songs for video games and anime openings (Library of Ruina and Goblin Slayer are two of them).
Astrophysics is amazing, I especially love their miku covers as the vocaloid fanatic I am, but all of their stuff it’s really worth listening to.
I love almost all music, and I dont really understand how to categorize it into genres, but im gonna try to separate this out somehow cause theres a ton of it. There are many more examples of each of these but its gonna be too long even without them.
Electronic Metal(?)
Metal(?), typically covers for some reason
The Classics
bit of a jump from all the metal stuff, but theyre more similar than you might think
(youve probably heard parts of all of them somewhere before)
(so good that it holds up being played from an N64, plus makes it sound kinda nostalgic)
Piano
(I know this isnt exactly how youre supposed to use a piano but it is still a piano)
Orchestral OSTs
I have way too many favorite OSTs to list so im just gonna pick a few from the hat
Weirdcore
it is as the name implies
Jazz?
Sakuzyo
that last jazz one reminded me, they make a lot of varied stuff and I love all of it
Chiptune(?)
Artcore
Maidcore??
I genuinely cant tell what unifies these into a subgenre (other than the anime maids)
but hey I like the music so idc if it is loosely defined.
Sea shanties & folk music
Musical Stories
the Mariner's Revenge Song reminded me of these, kinda lyrics-focused stuff
Musical Comedy
I dont even know how to categorize anymore
I have more but I really need to stop or I never will. I dont expect anyone to listen to all of this, but you can pick what youll probably like based on sections at least.
after travelling and listening to a lot of accordion music on the radio stations around ex-yugoslavia, especially serbia and the serbian minority parts of kosovo, i’ve become really fascinated by the rapid accordion music that blew up in the region in the late 80s/early 90s. there’s a lot of youtube clips of shows and cassette releases around then of fast-paced renditions of folk melodies that accompany traditional circle dances in the region. i find the rapid trills and unique rich sound of serbian accordions (called dugmetaras) combined with a raw almost punk-like backing so captivating. it’s a musical interest i try to be mindful of, though, because a lot of folk-inspired music in serbia at the time served the country’s nationalist fervor in advent of the yugoslav wars and atrocities.
aw i adore stereolab a lot! it meant a lot to see them a few years back. it feels a little funny to me that stereolab is kind of a nostalgia band for 60s chanson / experimental / academic and public service electronic music, but that we are further away from their main period in the early 90s than they are to the period they emulate. they have such a delightful sound and they’ve rly made those novel styles so timeless.
Speaking of accordions and Yugoslavia, have you ever explored Yu-Mex music? There was a period around the 1960’s that Yugoslavian musicians got really into performing traditional Mexican music.
Sometimes I will search for songs about bikes specifically to send to a friend of mine, sometimes there are some real gems in there.
impossible to find lyrics to the first one online unfortunately and can’t quite parse all of them myself, so if anyone wants to give it a try it would be much appreciated :>
Bike songs (putting these in the summary got rid of the preview for some reason  )
Ciclovias Ya - Kat Del Mar, this one has swears https://youtu.be/h8Cx1ieOkYM?si=vcxyEje2ppkigKxJ
This one is in spanish but I found a translation, it’s about fighting for bike lanes and transit
These ones aren’t about bikes but they gave the videos bike imagery and I like them so they’re included here.
Oh, you just reminded me of Komak the Maid: their albums are so dark and brooding and yet don’t feel oppressive to me, so they really help me when I’m in a low mood to get together the energy to take care of myself ^^
