This might be really weird but about a year ago someone recommended to me Persian pop music from like the 60’s and 70’s. I thought it sounded pretty cool. Specifically, I am pretty big fan of Googoosh. I think a good album to start with is probably Mordab. I feels very atmospheric to me. Also, if you like this then I have some other cool Persian music stuff.

Also, I think Betty Davis is pretty cool. It was sad that she retired so early. It had has amazing vibes for me and I love the vocals too.

I’ve been thinking about what I wanted to post here since this morning because music is a big thing in my life.

I’m not a musician or anything, I just relate to it in a very emotional level, it helps me express myself and understand myself.

I love music a lot, anyways I have this Spotify playlist with only video game music, I started making it back when I first played a game called "If Found… "

The game itself is a visual novel, very well written may I say so, I really recommend it.

Back on track, this playlist tries to capture a very particular feeling that I often get its like being adrift in the middle of the ocean, with that impending doom feeling in the bottom of your stomach and there’s really nothing you can do about it, but if you calm yourself enough you notice that the universe moves on completely unbothered by anything you do, and that’s depressing but also relieving, stay calm and let the ocean waves take you to where you are supposed to be and everything will be fine.

Anyways, it’s supposed to bring comfort and it helped me through more than a dozen anxiety crisis, hope it can bring someone some comfort too!

PS. If you plan on playing If Found… maybe play it first or skip its songs in the playlist, the songs are huge part of the game, don’t get spoilers!

Honestly I think music can help work through some of these emotions. For me I listen to a lot of post rock when I am feeling similarly. My go to is this album by Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

Thank you I am actually seeing them next month for my birthday and I am very excited. I really like the Kmart Amen Break song. It has a really nice surf rock guitar melody going on that I think really works with the noisy elements.

@PeptoAbysmal I really like that Betty Davis album thanks for sharing it.

some bands ive really been fascinated for a while:

Mess was an Estonian prog rock group active in the early/mid 70s who utilized homemade DIY synthesizers. their music was never released at the time because it was too radical to be accepted by the soviet enterprise, so they only gained a local following for their live shows which were apparently very surreal. i really like the rly dense textures that the synths undergird, the symphonic side of prog is usually far too overbearing and sugary for me but this almost leans into what post-rock eventually did…

Gunesh was a jazz fusion band from Turkmenistan that rly kindled my fascination with how jazz ensembles caught on in Soviet-era central Asia. A lot of their songs are renditions of Turkmen folk songs and they readily use traditional instruments in really catchy ways. their follow-up album is also a favourite! i can only describe it as fully automated multiethnic luxury space fusion.

Sıla 4 was a Turkish Cypriot folk rock band of musicians/ethnographers that travelled around Cyprus collecting folk songs of the Turkish minority, which was marginalised at the time. Their music ended up gaining popularity in Turkey, but they stopped their project when the Turkish army moved into Cyprus in 1974 and the country functionally split in half to this day. I really love their rendition of the uneven rhythms that are so characteristic of folk dances in the region

wow i adore googoosh so far!! thank you for sharing  persian is rly gorgeous sung…

i really like riding out that feeling of helplessness in the greater sceme of things in music, it can be really profound… i adore video game soundtracks that integrate that so well with the atmosphere of the game too. celeste definitely gives me that impression.

Yeah they hold a very special place in my heart. I use to listen to that album walking campus at night when I couldn’t sleep. “Sleep” in particular takes me back to those cold winter nights walking around these big empty spaces.

oh god, I wanted to post Godspeed You! Black Emperor, but too_many_potatoes were first, oopsie.

“Улица Восток” (“Ulitsa Vostok”, Vostok st.) — Ukrainian post-punk band, that I have been listening for more than a year now. They haven’t released anything in a while because of many different complicated reasons, but there are plenty of their songs and they are amazing.

“источник” (“istochnik”, lit. source) — another Russian post-punk group that I know for a long time. I am pretty sure they are disbanded for the same reasons mentioned above.

Maidcore is a variety of musical genres that are tied together by unique visual aesthetics and source of inspiration. This genre is pretty niche, but I am sure that there are people who will like the most popular authors. Btw, maidcore originates from Russia too and there are several video-essays about it, you can look them up on Youtube.

I decided to share “Goodnight World” from Yakui the Maid because it was the first maidcore album I have actually listened to. I was really surprised when under “maidcore” mask I found really good post-rock album.

Oh did someone say Jazz Fusion? I love it so much!
Here are some of my favs ~
Individual songs:

Galactic Funk, performed live by Casiopea

I just adore this song, the energy and fun the band is having is overwhelming and infectious. All of the solos absolutely rock and I love the way they crash back into the main melody. Big shoutout to the impromptu dance number during the keyboard solo.

Simple and Clean, covered live by J-Music Ensemble

Possibly my introduction to the genre? Patrick Bartley just absolutely kills it on the alto sax, incredible talent. Love the Cruel quotes of cruel angels thesis in the solos. Again, love the moment the band all fall back in together again after the solos.

Albums:

Mint Jams by Casiopea

One of my favorite albums of all time, fantastic from start to finish.

F1 - Grand Prix World by T-Square

Hit me back when my love of motorsport was at its peak, I never stood a chance.

Flying Beagle by Himiko Kikuchi

See this dog? Look at its face. It knows things. Hooks you in in the first six seconds.

@kosmischesasha I’m super intrigued by that band Gunesh that you shared! I’m defs gonna have to check out more of their work. Always keen to discover more of the wonderful world of Jazz.
Honestly everything everyone has posted looks so fascinating, gonna have to set aside some time to work through it all!

I really like sounds that are mashed together in such a weird way it works. I HIGHLY recommend looking up up Drowned Shrimp as just the music itself doesn’t do them justice. Such a fun band.

All of this persons stuff is pure gold and has so much personality to it.

And this one because it’s just an audio stim for me and has really silly vibes!
