Enby inspirations

Gosh, I really loved that show. I still need to get around to picking up the manga. Also it really bugged me when the English subtitles (at least the ones I found) used ‘he’ instead of ‘they’ as a 3rd person pronoun in it, given that the Japanese word ‘kare’ is not explicitly gendered, and it literally just means ‘they’ (singular) or in some cases ‘that’, and has only even had implicit gender connotations since the late 1800s (in contrast to the explicitly-gendered ‘kanojo’), which is largely due to English influence to begin with. It can definitely make sense to translate it as ‘he’ in a lot of contexts, but it doesn’t literally mean ‘he’, and could just as easily be translated to ‘she’ or ‘they’ in other contexts. /rant

But yes, Houseki no Kuni/Land of the Lustrous is amazing, Yellow Diamond is SO COOL. Also shoutouts to the jellyfish~slugs~snails I love jellyfish~slugs~snails.

been making my way through Kamen Rider W, and honestly Phillip is just consistently great at this. half-finger gloves, something that’s kind of got skirt vibes but isn’t really, unique fashion sense, it’s great.

I don’t really have any good inspos . . It kind of just dawned on me that I felt like a far cry from masculine and didn’t feel completely comfortable in feminine. For me, I sort of chose enby as a way to escape the dysphoria but then it grew on me the more I learned about myself and from seeing many types of literacies.

One of my first was Roland from Library of Ruina. The thought of wearing a suit and covering your face with a mask created a mysterious gentility that felt like it screamed out, ‘judge me by my actions, not by how I look,’ and that made me realize that I don’t need to represent anything because I needed to, but rather that it was how I truly felt. I wanted to be me, a mix of masculine and feminine traits whenever I felt like it, and that could be best explained with the term Non-Binary.

Edit: LoR yap here, just me talking about my fav character (Roland)

I know Roland wore his mask for different reasons, but it gave me my own inferences to make for myself on how I felt about his mask. Also, Roland has the coolest personality in my opinion and I aspire to be like him sometimes; cheeky and bright but solemn and remorseful as if he found peace with himself and at the same time continued to fully feel every emotion of his past whether it’d be malice or joy. Feels like an actual human being at times, truly a perfectly written character in my eyes.

I have more, just can’t think of em at the moment. Everyone deserves their own validation and I am glad there’s a place for unique cases like me. I’ve enjoyed reading this entire thread so far, cheers. :upside_down_face:

When I saw Ling and silver from Oneshot and margin of the strange I certainly had a gender moment or two or three.

Yes! Ouran High School Host Club! Gosh this re-entering my brain recently has being kicking off all sorts of gender thoughts.

I love that it's like the one story I know which has a androgenous protagonist which is fawned over by boys and girls alike. I love that there's so many interesting interpretations of gender and sexuality that you can apply to the story and characters! I love how fun and flashy and dramatic the characters and story are.

Haruhi is sooo gender and I love how that plays out with Tamaki and others that find themselves attractrd to Haruhi

We need more media which feature gender ambiguous people being so hot it instills gay panic in everyone

Also it can be hard to see yourself as attractive and desireable as a gender ambiguous person when you only see these things celebrated in binary terms. Heck even at a categorical level even most sexualities only are concerned with binarys. So it is so so lovely to see a story where there is a gender ambiguous person and so many people around them of all alignments are like "damn they are so hot I wanna date them so bad".

Another fun thing about haruhi is they like to just occassionally present as their agab and absolutely slay it

Its such rascal energy to just whip out this entirely different presentation occasionally and rock it.
I love it.
I maybe want to do it too??
I defs need to try it.

Stay tuned for slowmath to do more gender presentation exploration.

And you know, they're just real cute too

bonus pebble

Honestly Tamaki's so real for this

Foreshadowing...

Before I actually watched Promare, I really appreciated Lio from just a character design standpoint, but my appreciation has reached new heights since finally watching it!

One of the things that really struck me is that when you see a male character designed like this in anime, typically they have a high pitched voice, and also often they act very feminine.

So I was surprised in a very good way when I heard that he had a deep handsome voice! Critical hit in the gender feels!
His drip is phenomenal, and also rather enby! It's such an interesting balance of edgy cool and cute, black leather and delicate frills.

His demeanor doesn't fall into gender tropes either, and I like that he is the strongest character besides the main villain in the story, stronger than even all of the more macho man characters. I like that the macho main protagonist isn't at all threatened by someone like Lio being stronger than him, and if anything finds it hot.

The affectionate feelings of "I want them" and "I want to be them" are powerful on their own, but they also stack and multiply, so when its very strong for both like in this case I go really feral for them.

Spoilers for the film Promare:

I was joking about them doing the kiss of life AND THEN THEY NOT ONLY DID IT BUT MADE IT SOOOOOO SENSUAL

So yeah very normal about Lio

Omg the legend of the dark witch mention!!!

While not the most androgynous characters I can understand and see why you found inspiration in these characters, honestly when I saw Zizou for the first time it was with the second game outfit (the image you linked) I was asking myself: "Is that boy or a girl?" haha.

I would like to say something more but I'm kind of ankward >_> , but just to say something I'd like to say, I hope you have a nice day and good luck!!

To be honest I have so many enby inspirations for me that I can't really name all of them, so while I write I'm going to think about what inspired me. Since I'm a new user I can only post one image so I put the characters I thought of in one pic, and I explain everyone below:

  • Nahobino (SMT V):

Ever since the release of the game one of the things I liked about they is the design, I love that blue long hair and androgynous features they have, aside from the design, while their character is based more from player decisions, I like how their personality can be different depending of the player's perspective, I like to think they're a nice and calm person.

  • Jack Frost (MegaTen):

Continuing with MegaTen characters, this one little fella has always been in my mind, no special reasons for them but they're so cute and awesome at the same time, they're there minding their business and stuff, it's perfect.

  • Samus Aran:

Samus whole design and character is cool and I think it's one of my main enby inspirations, bounty hunter who blasts pirates and other kind of beings while maintaining her morals is awesome, I like that she's silent in most games, gives a certain vibe I can feel with characters such as the Nahobino like I talked about before.

  • Seliph (Fire Emblem: Geneaology of The Holy War):

Aside of seliph's appearance I like the personality and ideas that surround him, I won't spoil anything if anyone haven't played the game before so don't worry (if you ever worried haha), I love characters who are easy to sympathize with, feel, and understand them, seliph is one of those who is a cute cinamonroll too good for this world, he wants to stop evil and would like to not resort to violence, but if he has too, then there's no other option, not only that, but he's also one of, if not, the strongest lord in the series, I love it.

  • Kasane Teto (UTAU):

She's cute (I've ran out of characters and characteristics to describe or to explain my inspirations)

Also I would like to thank a_lilian since their videos have helped me define how I identify myself too :purple_heart: :yellow_heart: , also I would like to mention another creator called ceicocat and their video about Inside Mari, and last... cats and bunnys!!! I think they're adorable and are very gender neutral like any other animal.

I think I've said too much sorry, I got carried away with this, I hope you don't mind >_> , tschüss!!

We've had quite a number of gender inspirations along the way (some very recently while binging she-ra from start to finish...) and as usual when it comes to identity being a polyfragmented plural system complicates this all for us but the very first one of note was Minami Iwasaki from the series Lucky Star. Something about how andogynous she is just kinda levered open our brain to the idea of gender nonconformity, and it's been a weird and wild journey since then.
