Hello my fellow enbies and enby-adjacents. What characters/people where you inspired by through your life which led to a discovery or general feeling of enby identification?
Pre and post enby discovery are both welcome!

Weirdly enough, this xkcd character hit me hard last night:
Oh, to be a stick figure, void of distinguishing characteristics save a few chosen accessories!
I just pulled this one up out of an old Pinterest board. Alas, I can’t credit the artist because Pinterest, but I really love messy hair and sort of scraggly, messy, or frumpy vibes. I kind of think of it as being a gender dropout :p
Gender dropout
The one one that comes to mind first is the gems from Land of the Lustrous. Canonically all non binary, their builds are a mix of masc and fem.
Oh my goodness yes. When I walked by and my roommates were watching this I just stopped and stared. Shorts with leggings or stockings is such a fun legwear option!
I know this a thread about Enby. Land of the Lustrous help me into my femboi arc which lead me to being Trans. I love their outfits so much especially the winter clothes!
Manga is gonna end soon! I am so sad.
Oh really? I have fallen behind in the manga, its just so intense…
Their fashion is so incredible! I really should try and take some more inspiration from it to put together some new outfits
It just gets more intense, from the start to where it is now. I could have never guess it would where it is now…
Stuff on my “gender moodboard”:
Levi from Scavenger’s Reign (especially at the end, not going to show a pic of that because of spoilers).
Xurkitree, the Pokemon:
Skull Kid from Majora’s Mask:
I’ve started reading a book I borrowed from a local Unitarian Universalist church called “A Psalm for the Wild-Built” by Becky Chambers, which features an agender traveling monk and a robot. I think that counts too.
Ooh yes I also like Lio from Promare!
Mine are kinda silly…
Yubel from Yu-gi-oh GX
not the best representation but ivankov from one piece meant a lot to younger me.
one piece has much better trans rep now so that’s awesome!
the webcomic rain also has a very special place in my heart.
Well huh, this got a lot of replies while I was asleep.
Going deeper into my inspirations
The first real instance of enby identity I felt was actually from the starcraft one and two siege tank, I don’t know what it is but something about the visual and sound effects triggered something in my young child brain and I have built most of my personality over this exceedingly cool piece of fictional machinery.
After that came the almighty SHIV (I couldn’t find a better image)
The way this chunk of steel and alloy moves around a map in XCOM at mach speeds, uncaringly shmoving right up to the nearest alien and just sitting there, as it knows that you could not possibly do anything to it, is such an extreme mood that my slightly less child back then got greatly inspired all over again.
There’s also the very cool mech troopers in XCOM who also portray strong enby energy although they pale in comparison to the almighty brick.
Then there’s Robot!
From the surprisingly niche game nuclear throne comes this surprisingly cool bot. Its really hard to explain why it feels so inherently cool and awesome, but the way it crawls around obliterating everything that moves with gatling volley of bolts and shells, the way it makes modem sounds when transitioning levels while saying things like beep boop or 3C33 (<3 in hexadecimal), it is peak character design, I will not accept anything else.
Wow, I just realized my most memorable childhood enby inspirations where all inhuman killing machines, explains a lot actually. I have quite a lot of other enby inspirations now days as well but I’m afraid I wouldn’t stop rambling about them.
I am enby in the “Gender? No thank you!” kind of way and tend to long for some kind of formless, genderless mass however a lot of my inspo tend to be gremlins, goblins and ghouls!
With also a really weird sprinkle of Polly Shore in the early nineties?
Spirit Island has some great ones too:
Shroud of Silent Mist:
Starlight Seeks Its Form:
Fractured Days Split The Sky:
Strictly speaking all the spirits are genderless but these ones feel really enby
Not really an inspiration, but I liked how this character’s identity was handled in the books! And above that he’s just a really interesting character!
shapeshifters… the concept of being able to be any shape is so appealing… (this is also one of the biggest reasons Phosphophyllite is one of my favorite characters in media, period)
anthropomorphic robots are also a big one for me (not necessarily humanoid ones). the Tachikoma from GitS and Canti from FLCL are a couple early ones that i really enjoyed.
Tachikoma my beloved â—ˇ:heart:
