Your comfy place!

First post, so I wanna ask for something positive.
What is your favourite comfy place? A place you could retreat to when the world is just too much. Real or virtual.

Mine right now (virtual) is a campfire under a starry night sky. Not unlike Outer Wilds.

My boyfriend <3 He’s not a place but he’s like home to me, does that count as a comfy place XDD But I suppose if it’s like a place, as an introvert my answer would be my bedroom, and if it’s virtual it would be like the floating island in Qingyun Peak in Genshin :>> But honestly I can’t really pick a favorite spot because there’s a lot of comfy places I go to in Genshin.

Here are some pics I have of the favorite spots so far, they all hold sentimental value for me because they store a lot of memories, so I always reminisce about those moments, whenever I look at past photos, I remember those nostalgic times where me and my friends, my brother and my partner would always go around and play in these spots ^^

Summary

This is one of my favorite spots <33 There’s this festival in Genshin, which is basically Chinese New Years but in game and it’s called Lantern Rite and by the name itself, it’s customary to have lanterns floating in the main plaza in game whenever Chinese New Years come around. I love this event the most and I would always be so excited and happy when it comes around <33 2 of my favorite characters are from this region (Liyue) and I got them both in Lantern Rite so it’s like a happy place and favorite event all at the same time.

I would always walk around or just sit quietly watching the lanterns in game and it would always make me feel warm inside because I know that whenever I look at the lanterns in the sky, I know that someone out there in the world is also looking at it and appreciating the view in the same way I do, and it makes me feel less lonely whenever I gaze upon it. I make sure to make a wish as well by releasing a lantern every year <3

Summary

My best friend at that time when I just started playing, I would always routinely play with them, and I would always have fun teaching them and making sure they got all of the chests they need and secret spots to get bigger loot in and I always teased them whenever I can because they were always so lazy to explore and mostly because they were so goddamn adorable, (they genuinely remind me of chongyun, bro has the same personality i love teasing them XD I suppose that would make me xingqiu then) and one of the favorite spots we went to to take pictures and goof around would be on this statue. At that time, all our other friends were on a different server, mainly NA and we were the only ones in Asia, so we spent the most time together just playing Genshin.

This is also like a common place for wishing for new banner characters and is just basically a popular spot to wish on, so at that time I wished that we would always be friends forever :>> {sadly, they don’t play Genshin anymore because they sold their acc LMAO and we rarely ever talk but we would always come back to each other to talk once in a blue moon and I’m happy they’re still my best friend even if we don’t talk much, I’m glad they’re doing okay <3}

Summary

Here’s another favorite spot :DDD This is the floating island I was talking about in the first paragraph. When I first started playing, my brother would always carry my ass throughout the game, we were attached to the hip during these times because it was during the pandemic days. I unlocked this part of the map from the help of my brother, and I was so fucking happy, idk it just made me so incredibly giddy because this is the highest peak and the highest place during that time in game and I felt like I was at the top of the world. After hours of struggling to get the puzzle right, it was such a satisfying and exhilarating feeling to be able to see this view in game after those excruciating minutes of my brother patiently and exasperatingly telling me what to do to unlock the puzzle XD (and of course, the big chests and many loots I got was an absolute bonus XD)

It’s been a cozy spot ever since :> It was a much simpler time back then, and I loved playing with my brother during those times, I would play Genshin every single day after coming back home, regardless of how tired I was. Playing with my brother was the best part of my days, alas, we rarely ever play nowadays (cuz of university and work stuff but it’s okay since we still see each other every day anyways lmao) but I cherished every moment of those times.

Summary

A fave cozy spot, but also a little melancholic? This is a place in Genshin where it’s basically a paradise immortalized into this tiny little space in the map underneath a desert. My partner and I had fun just fucking around here LMAO XDD Since it’s an immortalized plane, all of the animals and things in it are not moving and is basically like a picture captured in its most gorgeous moment, and it feels poetic in a way, we had a lot of fun, just joking around and being kids, and I may not be able to find the screenshots of those memories in my gallery as it is buried in tons of pictures and memories, but I like to think that the feelings I had, the laughter and the happiness I felt just enjoying that time with him, will forever be immortalized in this plane of never-ending Paradise.

But aaaaa these have been just my most prominent comfy places online that I can think of the top of my head, I probably have a lot more in the other games I play but going through like most of those would be probably take years XD and I’d probably cry lmaooo, but yeah, these are my comfy places :heart_hands::heartpulse::sparkles:

irl comfy space is bed. Virtually, these are some of my top “my brain is cooked today, I just wanna push buttons and feel good” games. I picked some of my favorite specific spaces from them but the entire games count really. They’re also some of my all time favorite games in general. Honorable mention to fighting game training modes.

I have a couple of comfy places.
IRL; When I’m in bed with my Tort plushie, baths and showers can be really cozy, being around the ocean and nature with little to no people, and being underwater is cozy SCUBA diving is a lot of fun.

Virtual; Lots of cozy stuff in VRChat. There are worlds that can be comforting by themselves. Good worlds with ocean environments or cozy lighting.

For both people can heavily effect the comfy feel either negatively or positively. If I get the right feel from people a lot of places can feel comfy that might not feel that way otherwise.

Boring answer, but, my bed, under the sheets. It’s where I go when I’m overstimulated and we need some time to ourself.

there isn’t really any physical space other than my room for now. That’s mostly just because my room is an isolated place. Decor-wise, it’s still only really composed of a bunch of mismatching hand-me-down stuff. It’d be nice to get more fun things I care about or that feel more representative of whoever Pankit is, but I’m not used to doing that, and I don’t know where to start.

one idea on the more homemade side: I’ve been wondering about setting up a semi-permanent blanket fort kinda thing in my room. I think I have the space for it. It’d give me an isolated space other than my computer chair or bed. Could be nice for reading, handheld gaming, burrowing away in the middle of being talked to, etc.

there’s more I could talk about on the virtual side of things, but I think I’ll leave it there for now.

Being in the backseat watching the streetlights go by at night and everyone thinks you're asleep.

Alternatively: Rain/snow at night while riding in the car.

A few more: Hiding in the bathroom. Hidden corners in airports. Rarely used stairwells in buildings.

That sounds like a wonderful idea and it would be cozy!

Rarely used stairwells in buildings and dirt paths under bridges for me
Also beaches and forest paths without a lot of other people, especially if it’s cloudy and there are crepuscular rays about.

I miss this one a lot. I don't really have many excuses to be driven long distances now, and I get car sickness pretty bad nowadays too, which mars the experience, and also necessitates sitting in the front to mitigate it (having a person right next to me is distracting).

Nowadays I only really have my room/bed, walks through certain quiet corners of my city, or rare instances where I travel long distances by train and get to just sit next to a window of moving scenery and space out for a while.

I think travel's especially powerful for me, compared to my room, as they're all settings where there's not a lot that can bother me, and being in a situation where there's not a lot i can do even if i wanted to, allows me to let go of a lot of mental baggage and just appreciate the tranquility.

Unfortunately, my room/bed are the only ones that are realistically retreatable to. Walks are nice, but oftentimes the situations where a walk would benefit me the most, are also the ones I feel the least comfortable going outside in.

Rarely used public spaces like that are so goated. During university, sometimes I’d be overstimulated and I need a dark quiet place to “nap” (basically like a quick restart of my brain), and I’d find an unused classroom, turn off the lights and just rest on my hoodie or whatever. I need similar spaces in my day-to-day life, like the private staff washroom at my retail job, when I need to retreat from all the noise and brightness and hustle and bustle of life.

besides that, the places I feel most comfy are:
Indoors: my house once my brother has gone to bed. I love him, but I act as his caregiver (he’s autistic with high support needs), and midnight and beyond is time purely to myself, watch shows, play games, or clean without interruptions or responsibilities from him or anyone else.
Outdoors: Possibly one of my favourites is a dark, snowy night in a secluded area, like the nearby river beach. The water level’s low that time of year, so it’s a large expanse of empty beach with very few if any people about, and it’s comforting to just wonder about, detached from the larger world.

I have one sweatshirt that i can like stuff into its own hood and it works pretty well as a pillow in a pinch, I wonder if there are any that are designed with this in mind

ooh that’s a smart idea, I usually just scrunch my hoodie into some vaguely pillow-like structure lol

There's this particular botanical garden near me that has this one area where one may sit on a bench located underneath a tree looking out upon a small lake.
I went here once as an older kid, and remembered it really fondly. For the longest time, I wasn't sure if this was a real place or something from dreams,[1] but I went again last year and it was just as serene as I remember it being.

I don't come here often, so it's not my go-to comfy place, but it is the comfiest place I go to. Whenever I meditate or try to find myself in nature, I think about this place and its beautiful view.

  1. because I couldn't remember where I went ↩︎
