Share some short snippets of wisdoms which we’ve witnessed in the wild or whipped up ourselves. Distinct from quotes in that these are more generalized, unattributable, and/or original. Also they should offer life lessons or advice, you know, wisdoms!
Here’s some off my list, with some thoughts on them, to boot.
An addiction is not a moral failureIt's important to remember this for the perspective of someone suffering an addiction, as well as someone close to someone with an addiction. It is ultimately an illness, so keep judgement (both to and from) yourself reserved.A stitch in time saves nineFixing something before it breaks saves immense time and effort.
Antithetical to
if it ain't broke, don't fix it
A ‘wisdom’ which I wholly despise.
They have the money but we have the numbersOne of my favorite grassroots support/anti-elitist wisdoms. Second only to my "the only ethical consumption under capitalism is eating the rich"Dignity never accomplished anythingCringe is dead, and for me, this is what did it.Keep your business drier than yourselfIt is impossible to know what this means. Don't even try.Beware unearned wisdomwoof. that's a powerful one. Why take advice from someone with no experience of what they preach. Knowledge is gifted, wisdom is earned. The greatest trick the devil played in humanity was making lead compounds taste so goodOk. This one's mine, but hear me out; there's a reason kids ate lead paint, it tastes sweet (DONT TEST THAT). Certain lead sugars are even sweeter than sucrose (I SAID DONT). Lead poisoning, imo, was/is the worst thing to happen to humans since the black death. The measurable depression in human intelligence, collectively, since lead poisoning was first described over 4000 years ago, has, imo, set humanity back hundreds of years, especially due to the increased aggression it causes, likely contributing to poor diplomacy in an abstract sense. If you can't handle me at my girlfailure, you don't deserve me at my girlbossyou can lead a horticulture, but you can't make them thinka naughty joke i made up
i’m still figuring out the particular words i wanna use for this one, but i came up with:
“You fear losing sight in the dark, but the light is what so easily blinds you.”
the general idea is that people may have too much aversion to the unknown, when the things they hold dear are doing more harm. a simple suggestion of skepticism (also blinding yourself by staring at the sun is much faster and more effective than blinding yourself by remaining in darkness)
This one rock’s hard mainly in the context of album made by a Afro-brazilian rapper (AmarElo by Emicida), very proud of the changes in this country that we went from plans of exterminating anyone who wasn’t white to having a black conscience day as a national holiday, still a really messed up country, but i still love this culture and the changes that were made and still being made.
The whole documentary of this album is good as fuck, its on Netflix if it is available out of Brazil (which i think it isn’t)
There is much to be said, about the fun to be had, with a clear weather friend.
True close and deeply trusted friends are rare and should be cherished. But that’s not a reason to dismiss “lesser” connections, nor endlessly pursue “deeper” connections with everyone.
There is lots of good memories that can be made with acquaintances with similar interests.
And you don’t always need to have fun things or interests in common with a “deep” friend. (though it helps in creating the friendship in the first place)
Always remember in your weakest states, the strongest version of you is waiting to be born.
And you have to allow it to be.
i really like this quote because it shows the nature of human struggle with those who contain an indominable human spirit, it urges you to let people go through pain so that they can become a better person. you should still help people in need, but do not protect them to the point where they are unable to realize the dangers in their lives. help in moderation; for you are still helping by declining a request for a crutch.
This quote hits really close to home for me since it is one of the main reasons I would have described myself with the symbol of a phoenix for a long time. Always getting stabbed (metaphorically) by the daggers of reality but still getting back up because the future was still shining brightly as an undetermined fantasy.
Also gonna share a one liner if I am already writing in here.
You can lose a leg, an arm or even your head but never lose your heart.
