So, as some of you may have caught mention of, I am currently visiting the Toronto Area for Anime North (and to visit friends at the same time). As part of this trip, I've flown for the first time in my life, been on the go for about 14 hours, and am writing this up on nearly no sleep while i figure out dinner plans and prepare to knock the fuck out.
planes!
planes are weird. both in the size sense (i always thought they would be larger inside), and in terms of a sensory experience. jets go whoosh is cool! turns go swoosh! but then you have to contend with constant noise the entire time and it's a really mixed bag...
it's nice that they end up being pretty speedy to the destination, but being here now and riding
trains
i wish that i could take one of those everywhere. even the buses feel nice to get around in, which really contributes to the area feeling walkable.
current photographs!
in addition to the ones on my phone, I've also taken my Polaroid camera along for the flight! planning to use it more during the convention, but very happy with it after the first hiccup of not remembering how it works + not bringing the instructions with me on the plane.
Oooo! I love flying so much but I think I have aviation genes as previously discussed on stream.
I love the polaroid photos. You're making me want to get one! I can't wait to see your anime pics. Also:
agreed!
General air transit appreciation
When you're pulled far enough away from the ground that you can still make out cars and stuff but they look like little toys instead of our big world, it kind of gives me a moment of perspective. Like down there is usually this whole world I'm wrapped up in, and that place I live in feels like the entire universe most of the time, but up here I can see that it's actually really small! That person in that car there could be in a big rush to get somewhere and they have no idea that from up here, their little car boop scooting around is trivial and insignificant! It really doesn't make that much of a difference if they drive fast or get stuck behind someone slow! But to them I'm just a blinking light in the sky that doesn't matter much either.
It also activates the mass transit autism. I love hanging out in airports. Like it's fun to watch people in their uncomfortable business clothes and I'm over here wearing scrub bottoms all "nyehehehe! I am a neurodivergent rascal who thrives in a highly structured environment with lots of signage and big machinery, and everyone just got taken out of their social cliques and dumped into a bowl where nobody cares if they're a CEO of something!"
There was one time I ended up next to a surgeon and he asked me what I do for work and I ended up explaining to him how an inpatient unit works. And he was like "...yes I know I'm a surgeon." And then I got to ask him all the questions I've always wanted to ask surgeons but that I've never had the chance to do in a socially appropriate manner! Thank you airport!
Ace ring spotted! I really should wear mine more often, but I wash my hands too much at my current job, and taking it off increases my risk of losing it (it’s cheap, but I’m already on #3 [#1 was too big, #2 I lost at my last job]).
As well, the polaroid on the far right reminds me of a photo I took back in high school
I love the little polaroid. The pictures it takes look really nice.
BP spotted
I think I have some merch from the artist that made the BP sticker? My really good friend really likes BP so I got them two key chains and a sticker from that artist. I really like Glaucus so I got a keychain of from the artist too when I got stuff for my friend. My friend and me have matching little keychains that we both hang on our mics. :3
I think its the same artist? I couldn't remember where I bought them from to compare the sticker you have but its a similar style to my friend's sticker.
it really is! first out of the country on a plane long trip by myself, at n airbnb instead of a hotel, like what happened!! the only thing missing rn is a bike to get around a bit easier when i don't want to bother with (getting a Motocompacto for trips like these seems very appealing honestly, but i will be looking at the bike share this time if i'm spending a lot of time on foot).
it's definitely one of the best gifts i've ever gotten. there's a few other models that i remember liking as well, though i can't remember the names off the top of my head; all very affordable for cameras! the long term price is just gonna be stocking up on film packs tbh.
yep, that looks like the same glau keychain i got! from ruri/dailybloopy, depending on where u know them from.
yeah, that's the main reason i don't wear mine to work often. had to bring it on the trip, though, don't want any surprise proposals over summer vacation (or however movies do fling romances) (the real reason is just good stim tool honestly)
good fish photo i enjoy it
i think i had a few moments like this flying in. just, with everything else going on, it kinda took me half a flight to realize i was staring out the window because i was simply fascinated with the way things looked from that far above (and even from not so far above!).
there's a lot more thoughts i have on the difference in vibes between traveling and feeling/being stuck at home but i shall figure out how to word those all some other time
I thought it was dailybloopy! My friend said they didn't think it was. The little card that came with the stuff said Ruri and I couldn't find that name on dailybloopy.
Okay so anyways I had a dream about having a polaroid camera and it was so much fun so now I guess I need to get one.
(Also in the dream the film packs would occasionally have a single shiny/foil polaroid sheet and you wouldn't know if you had one/which one it was so you'd just randomly pull a shiny picture of a random bathtub??)
day 2 trip was to the Ontario Science Center! i got a bit lost on the buses bc one of them despawned (and i ended up paying the fare twice on one bc i got off way too early lmao), but was well worth the trip!
also, idk if there are usually this many ppl visiting from school, but it was pretty packed, so that was an interesting surprise. i think the center was loud enough on its own that all the children didn’t really make a difference, honestly!
The main floor here was honestly really nice, if just for the fact there was so much robot and speech synth representation.

going up :arrow_heading_up:
making a stop at the ham radio station! the world keeps telling me to get back into this… gotta find time to study for the re-cert… it’s so cool…
So, this is the part that really made me think of the garden, especially after Lilians new vid “What is a_lilian?” which these thoughts sort of bleed over/take from the potential reply i was thinking about putting there before i even got to the Science Center. universe callbacks really going above and beyond, huh?
but yeah, between the Racoons lined up with the other animal themed cart names, and the nature area itself being very much under construction, i decided that would be my Polaroid of the day (i very shortly later took a second one outside on the terrace area (called a terrace grill for some reason i couldn’t discern, there were no cooking-related items) ).
bonus: tempting criminal activity, and liminal stuff!
you ever see a sign that says don’t do something, don’t go somewhere, and it makes you want to do the thing? i’m so lucky that it would be incredibly inconvenient to get arrested during my trip, because goddamn was the urge strong.
there was also a surprising amount of, like, empty spaces, considering how many other people were visiting at the same time as me. was really nice.
i hit ctrl+enter by accident, still typing up the captions for the images. oops!
ok they’re all good, sending off the edit before my editor lags so much it crashes~
Ah I love planes!! They so cool! I go on them every few years and it always fun… And scawy but once actually on the plane I fine
I love takeoff going zooooooomies !!
I like playing flight Sims too! Tho sadly there no way for me to use live networks to play more realistic as need voice for vtc too scary.
Photos are great; always take photos when I’m on a flight!
This is always so cool… and often beautiful! Windows seats are a must 100%
Shame you have to go through those silly scary people every time you want to get on a plane,;(
Polaroid is also super cool I want to get one but it being the photo it is… I don’t have enough camera skill yet!
ok ok making myself do a scuffed post before i pass out again (walking so much is exhausting what the fuck??? i have walked more this week than i have probably the rest of the year). might not add more tomorrow, depends on if i see any other neat cosplays! I'm looking for a senbonzakura miku that i saw on Friday but couldn't catch...
was a ton of fun, especially liked running into the tv heads (and there were a few of them!)
ask any questions i will get back sometime tomorrow if not tonight ig
I love the train pics
The robot arena looks exciting!
No face holding the card payment thing is very funny
The lego builds look so cool too!
The cosplayers are so rad holy hec
The polaroids looks especially amazing! The one with the TV head has huge vibes. I’m curious how you decide whether to use the regular camera or the polaroid one for any given shot?
Thanks for sharing your adventure! I also ran myself a bit ragged on my last trip, make sure you don’t overstretch yourself too much. Resting in a cool spot is fun too! I hope your legs are feelin up to more stuff tomorrow ^v^
based on vibes (real). outside the con (and before i got more film) the thought was "1-2 Polaroid photos per location i stop at", but my phone camera is a bit of a bastard sometimes and it's a bit easier to snap a quick picture with the Polaroid than pull my phone back out of my pocket.
yeah so about that....
it's weird, I'm definitely sore from all the walking around, but it's really just been the soles mostly. last night and this morning are the first time i feel actually sore. if i need to I'll cancel tomorrow's plans, but we'll see!
@slow_math so you might not believe this but my legs are sore bc of public transit, not really the walking
it turns out spending so many hours balancing myself on buses and trains uses muscles i don't get to much in the States
the send-off!!
other note: i thought I'd been eating and drinking enough ish, neither was correct and i was suffering a bit more last night and this morning (thankfully i brought snack to the con again). probably going to the aquarium tomorrow, might see about the train museum again if i have the energy? and I'll post more pics of what I bought eventually i just forgot to grab those before coming back to eat at a cafe oops (i got a witchy hat i might pair w something tomorrow... we'll see)
edit: omg omg i completely forgot to mention i saw a few witch hat and Apothecary Diaries cosplays!!! i missed being able to ask for photos bc we were all busy hitting up booths and tables but qifrey and maomao and coco at least were perceived (sadly did not find that miku again....)
they really were!! there was also a bunch of GBA and nDS and PS Vita cartridges, forgot to snap a photo of those ;; (The Minish Cap was like 120 CAD which imo is worth but also wao)
