Moss appreciation

moss in the wild! featuring clover. was surprised to see either of these here, it’s a pretty “developed” place

Not the best video, but it’s the only one I have of a moss covered stump I found on a hike in Alaska! I thought it was so cool that this was the only video I took of the hike (I took a lot of pictures though)

I’m not sure if this is technically moss that is growing on these trees, but it’s defs got the same vibes

I don’t think either of these are moss, but they fit the vibe for me. Lichen on pink granite, and some algae in a tide pool, both from a trip I took last week to coastal Maine.

It’s so good! I love when the moss is so happy and poofy that you can see the miniature forest inside.

In that case I’ve found some fantastic lichens recently!

I also have this article I found titled Queer Theory for Lichens that I really enjoyed: Queer Theory for Lichens | UnderCurrents: Journal of Critical Environmental Studies

from the hike today

bonus: mushroom appreciation!

bonus bonus: what's this?

is it a weird mushroom? maybe what remains of a mushroom stalk? or maybe it’s a super rare albino plant?

and, did you spot the frog? there were so many little fellas like these during the hike, made us very happy to see amphibians thriving in these forests!

here’s another photo with one:

Soo, I’ve noticed there are some moss enjoyers here! :potted_plant:

During my short hike today (it was too hot for a longer one) I’ve kept my eyes open for cool moss, and it was really fun! It’s really interesting how many variants of moss there are actually, if you look out for it, it’s always cool to go through the world looking out for small things like these! I haven’t photographed all of them obviously, but here is some collection

Close up of moss growing on soil

Moss with some kind of bushy ball top

Macrophotography of long moss. Was a bit unsure if this was actually moss or short fern, but I'm pretty sure it's moss, sure felt like it!

Cool spotty moss. Kinda looks like a mini swamp

Moss on the side of a rock next to a mini waterfall

I've used my go go gadgeto extendo legs and grabbed some spanish moss (thanks @PetTurtle for enlightening me!), it felt quite different than I've expected, it was waay drier (dryer or drier??) than what I thought it would feel like, almost felt like it was manually dried in one of those dehydrators. Definitely an interesting texture!

Sorry for probably sending waay to many pictures, couldn’t really decide which ones to share with you ^^"

Bonus edit:

Found this plant with spiky ends where the dew only collected on it's edge, looked pretty cool!
