I’ve quite enjoyed a lot of the words posted so far. It has engendered a feeling of “yes, these feel like my people!”

(Ooh, engendered.)

Big ups to attenuate, ephemeral, perambulate, superfluous, juxtaposition, concatenation, accoutrements, obfuscate, defenestrate, evocative, prerogative, psychopomp, ambivalent, dichotomy, and to all four in @zqlk’s recent post:

Some just chef’s kiss superb offerings in this thread. (sidenote: The ones I highlighted happen to be ones that I would use and that sound nice / feel nice to say. I wonder if there are any further commonalities. Potentially some aspect of the length and consonant sounds? That part of me likes how they make me feel smart? (or “…how they bolster my ego via sesquipedalian verbosity?”))

Also, shout-outs to the unexpected biochemical guest-stars! Proteins, biomacromolecules, and organelles comin’ out left and right! Love to see it.

I have a few words of my own to contribute (gathered from the top of my dome plus a skim through some writing from earlier this year)

  • engendered (as above)
  • loiter
  • archipelago
  • archaeon
  • superfluous (how couldn’t I?)
  • preposterous
  • purportedly + ostensibly
  • glaze
  • perfidious
  • zealous
  • liberatory
  • inconceivable
  • affect + effect
  • entanglement
  • inherent
  • envisioning
  • lens
  • sclera
  • monolithic
  • potentialities
  • inculcation
  • preclude
  • irksome
  • recursive
  • litigating
  • visceral

I shared some of the good words with my mother and she asked whether names were included; she loves saying the name of this 80’s tennis player:

Slobodan Živojinović
(“zhee-voh-YEE-noh-veech”)
