It's Ikea time!

Hei hei! Jeg snakker ikke svensk. Jeg snakker veldig lit norsk? Det ar bra. Jeg ar bra. Du ar bra. Hvor ar du? Fredag? Jeg likker fredag. Tak for i dag, Freya! Jeg ar lilian sonsdottir?

It's time to do an Ikea!

As per my post in July’s Get It Done! Secret tanuki edition, I'm putting together an Ikea order! So here's a thread to just have a fun romp through the Ikea catalogue. Or you can share your goofy ikea experiences and memes. I don't really care.

Things I'm Interested in Getting

Handsome blackout curtains are very blue :3 I'll need to get a curtain rod/brackets to go with them.

Crossover event with: Talk to me about blankets … in Blanket Fort!?! I think it's a cool, weird design and I really like furnishings that have bold colors in simple designs.

I don't think I'm going to go for it this time, but it has my attention as someone who likes their floor-time but doesn't like it when their pokey bones try to make friends with the floor.

Fake plant for work desk because there is a dirth of sunlight where I work.

Ikea Anecdote

One time my partner and I were at an Ikea and we were choosing a sofa so we were testing different cuddle positions to make sure the couch was compatible for us as a couple and that's the most PDA I've ever done. Got lots of smiles from strangers for it!

also funny anecdote

Me and my brother would always do this thing where I would sit on the cart like the one in the picture above and we would run like maniacs across the aisles... so much fun...

not necessarily a pick, but feel the need to make a reply about it anyway

it finds this very funny. it does understand that this is likely for moving plants around that need an oddly specific amount of sunlight, but like to imagine that this is for someone who wants to take their plant out for a walk, kind of like a wheelchair for a houseplant.

Ace went to IKEA last week, saw a skinned blahaj as a hoodie, and had a (gay) breakfast of Champions

Also: IKEA Nottingham is Trash don’t ever go þere if you’re in Damp Fish and Chips Land :uk::uk::uk:

all very good items! i am sad to say that i have never been in an IKEA since the closest physical store is a rather inconvenient drive. need to go sometime for the food, at least. and a blahaj.

This is Not* a Shopping List

but it did remind me i need to go shopping for some things for my room (was also reminded of some things from tanuki's post, but getting mildly sick this week knocked those thoughts out of the brain almost immediately).

  1. lamp.
i need a lamp. i actually need it a lot more than i realized, because the glare from my ceiling fan light is bad for mental and i need to stop using it. something like this floor uplighter, though ideally with a shade or cover on the main area, seems nice – having a separate light for use at night is also something i miss having (used to use a desk lamp but it was never a good setup).

this one's also cute. idk where i'd put it. but cute.

  1. the evening glint issue (curtain?)
when the sun is low in the sky in the afternoon and evening, it comes in at a super specific angle to bounce off of my monitors (or, in previous arrangements, into my eyes). i do currently use blinds for (long reason). i could either re-replace them back to curtains, or just set up an auxiliary curtain to block the area that's the problem. not sure yet!

  2. maybe a storage unit or dresser or
something that can help with the issue of trying to reorganize a rather vertical dresser that is not very well made but has a lot of stuff i can't put elsewhere. if i can settle on one short enough, i could even put it in my closet! something slightly larger than the Malm is probably what i'm looking for; IKEA sells a lot of w i d e things that i don't really need or want.

This is my favorite Ikea item. Every battery charger is a big, ugly wall wart that’s difficult to place anywhere appealing. This one holds up to eight AA/AAA batteries and neatly folds away out of sight. I love it. Chances are most folks aren’t using AA/AAA batteries as much as I am, but if you are, it’s a nice little thing.

I forgot an important Ikea purchase:

It’s a bag… that you can fold up and put in your bag :horse:

So then my tiny 7L bag secretly holds like 70L of bag in potentia ready to be deployed at a moment’s notice >:3

Some fun ikea suggestions!

If you need a doormat, this one is truly delightful!

Also another fun bag

Mat to go in front of your toilet, surprisingly nice in the way it looks, really adds to the vibe of bathroom, and I like that it keeps my feet off cold bathroom tiles

I am also in a situation of really wanting nicer lighting around my home, but nothing at ikea really hit what I wanted. I’m very interested in what you might find! Maybe you’ll find some cool stuff I missed

Regarding lights, I am of the many lamps full of smartbulbs camp. The lights in my house follow this whole programmed arc throughout the day that involve them gently dimming and getting warmer throughout the evening which helps me get sleepy! That's actually part of why the endless sunlight is so bad for me. It just overrides my nifty light cycles ;-;

I also having a standing lamp like this that I like a lot:

(You can search "upward facing LED lamp" on Amazon)

The point of it is to shoot the light up at the ceiling instead of at your face! And then the light bounces off the ceiling and diffuses gently around the room. While wondorously efficient and bright, LED lights are fairly harsh to shine directly into your eyeballs.

Temptation to get indoor doormat even though that's something I've never wanted before strictly to have reminders of forum mates around the place.

It really brightens up the entrance to my home :3

Ooh the lamps shining light at the ceiling trick is something I’ll have to investigate, I really dislike light being shone directly at me, so this might be the trick I’m looking for

Im tempred of that lamp style too. But instad so the lightbulbs dont get in the way of my head when im walking through the house

I could probably just shorten the light cables tho

I took my partner on a date to Ikea at some point because she said she hadn’t been before. We’re still together so I can wholly endorse the idea for anyone looking for date/hangout spots. Just go to Ikea and hang out it’s great.

I have the exact same one (or extremely similar), the remote control for lighting has spoiled me

Mine doesn't have a remote but I did once replace some of the light switches in my apartment with smart switches because I am a normal lease-abiding citizen and can be trusted with a screwdriver.

Also I poked in here to say that I submitted the Ikea order! I mostly just got the curtains and a few other random household items they duped me into buying at checkout. I do need new slippers now that they mention it…

Lord KALLAX hasn’t claimed my soul… yet.

^ Me to the sun for the last week.

The curtains are up!

Or should I say the MAJGULL are up?

I think I went through multiple character arcs trying to hang them. Ambition, despair, lunacy. It was… it was a whole thing.

Having the sunlight taken away felt relieving in the way getting a splinter out does. Like I’d been haunted by the Darkest Dungeon stress crown thingy and suddenly it’s gone:

Wait, it was overstimulation all along?

I got this lamp last week and I love it.

I'm also feeling very spoiled by this too. I use to have a battery powered lamp next to my bed for when I got up at night. Now I just turn on my lamp with the remote. :3
