I really loved the song played on the title screen of Burnout Dominator when I was playing it on PS2 as a kid, this game was my first Burnout game ever.
There are also two other versions for this song :
The original one used for Burnout 2 (on which the previous one was based on)
The Burnout Paradise version
And in Burnout Paradise the 2 other versions are also present since the OST of this game reuse a lot of music from the older games (mainly Dominator).
In terms of licensed songs my favorite one back then was this
My english was terrible back then (Iām French) so I understood approximatively 0% of the lyrics, but I really liked the way it sounded.
anyways the entirety of the skyrim, hollow knight, minecraft, guilty gear, risk of rain 2, stardew valley, terraria and celeste soundtracks could be put here
though in particular:
Skyrim:
Far Horizons (up there for my fav ost track of all time)
I cannot believe this thread is this deep and only one singular Sonic the Hedgehog song has been mentioned so far tbh. Absolute banger of a series with regards to OSTs, especially when it comes to vocal tracks - Sonic Frontiers had fucking Kellin Quinn from Sleeping with Sirens on the soundtrack and it goes absolutely insanely hard.
The album release is uncensored, and the lyric āfight the pain away / my head is in ruinsā becomes āfuck the pain away / my bed is in ruinsā, and I think that means there is officially at least one Sonic song with the word āfuckā in it. (His World from Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 had āassā in it though, in-game and uncensored, thoughā¦so.)
On a similar note, these arenāt inherently video game songs, but they were licensed for BIT.TRIP RUNNER for WiiWare and thatās where we found them, so theyāre going here too.
Can we just appreciate what an experience the original Cave Story was?
Picture this: It's Christmas 2004. Steam is that weird downloader Valve want you to use to play Half-Life 2. "Indie game" isn't a commonly used phrase yet, unlike "bedroom programmer".
Someone sends you a link to some Japanese dude's personal homepage.
You read this (translated):
Cave Story is a jumping-and-shooting action game.
Explore the caves until you reach the ending.
You can also save your game and continue from where you left off.
You download and start the game. There is some flavor text and then you're in a place called "Start Point".
You go through a door and you're in "First Cave".
Everything until this point is carefully crafted to make you think Cave Story is just some random guy's amateur game project. And it kinda is. But it's also one of the most successful indie games of all time.
...aaaaand it has good music too I guess.
Tag yourself: Did you play the fan translation ("Huzzah!") or the official Nicalis one ("Oh Yeaaah!!")?
Little personal anecdote: Back in 2009 or so I would often listen to the radio in bed. One night this catchy tune came on. I didn't have a smartphone yet, so I had no way to record it or look it up in any way. The melody stayed with me for months.
this game has a great soundtrack, please recommend other cozy horror games to me (this one is sad though, and CW for stuff in the title and some other spoilery stuff, can read about it on the game page if you want)
i have to post this, it shot into my top 10 tracks without warning
this musical style is amazingly beloved to me, and elements of it scratch my neurons in a perfect way (especially the instrument that's layered in around 2:55 and 4:35)
Back in the days of yore when dial-up modems roamed the earth, a little website called LEGO.com hosted a bunch of flash games. One of them was this little gem:
